About TimKitchen
Our story
TimKitchen started in 2016 as a shared folder of handwritten cards. Tim Rowan had just moved into a flat with a two-burner stove and an oven that ran forty degrees hot, and the recipes he found online kept assuming a kitchen he didn't have. So he began rewriting them: fewer pans, clearer timings, and a note whenever something was likely to go wrong. Friends asked for copies, the folder became a blog, and the blog became a small two-person test kitchen run with his sister Marta, who handles the baking side.
Our mission
To make everyday cooking less stressful. We believe a good recipe should tell you what the food should look, smell and sound like — not just how many minutes to set a timer for. If a step is fiddly we say so. If a shortcut works, we use it and explain the trade-off.
What we value
Honesty
Timings are measured on a domestic hob, not estimated. If a dish takes 50 minutes, we won't call it a 20-minute meal.
Accessibility
Ingredients you can buy in a normal supermarket, with substitutions listed for the awkward ones.
Respect for food
We plan recipes so leftovers have a second life, and we note storage and freezing for almost every dish.
Clarity
Short sentences, one action per step, and sensory cues so you can cook without re-reading.
Our cooking philosophy
Season early and taste often. Buy fewer ingredients and better ones. Learn three techniques — roasting, braising and a decent pan sauce — and most of a week's dinners take care of themselves. Salt, acid and a little fat fix more dishes than any special equipment ever will.
Editorial standards
Every recipe is cooked at least three times, by at least two people, before it is published. Weights are given in grams alongside cups. Nutrition figures are calculated per serving from standard ingredient databases and are estimates, not medical advice. When we update a recipe we add a dated note at the top rather than silently rewriting it. We do not accept payment for positive reviews; sponsored content, when it appears, is labelled at the top of the page. Reader corrections are welcome and credited.

The focaccia timing note about the cold overnight rise made all the difference. Best crumb I've managed at home.
Thank you for giving gram weights. Cups were always guesswork for me.

Made the lentil soup with smoked paprika instead of sweet — brilliant. Froze half and it reheated perfectly.
